Admission Overview

The Doctor of Education in Learning and Organizational Change (EdD) is designed for working professionals who hold or seek organizational leadership roles across industries. Candidates in this collaborative online program desire to drive change through innovative approaches to teaching and learning in a variety of educational settings. They share Baylor’s commitment to a tradition of faith-based service and hope to employ these values in the meaningful change they create.

Applicants to the EdD online in Learning and Organizational Change program must hold a master’s degree with a GPA that demonstrates strong academic success, which is normally 3.0 or higher.

The EdD online program starts three times per year — in January, May, and August. Our admissions team accepts and reviews applications year-round on a rolling basis.

The Baylor School of Education maintains the same admission standards for online programs as it does for on-campus programs. Successful applicants possess backgrounds that demonstrate an ability to excel in a doctoral program and a strong desire to have a positive impact in their field.

GRE test scores are not required to apply to the EdD online in Learning and Organizational Change program.

Application Requirements

All applicants must submit:

  • the online application
  • a resume/C.V.
  • official transcripts
  • three letters of recommendation
  • a personal statement
  • a video interview
  • $50 application fee

Our admissions team is available to answer any questions regarding application requirements, however, they cannot accept submissions of application materials. All application materials must be submitted to our application services team (SOEappsvcs@onlinegrad.baylor.edu). Application materials that are not submitted through application services will not be accepted.

Master’s Degree Requirements

All applicants must have earned a master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Additionally, applicants must have earned a master’s degree with a GPA that demonstrates strong academic success, which is normally 3.0 or higher. The master’s degree may be in any field relevant to the applicant’s profession, but the applicant should also have the appropriate background, experience, and goals for pursuing an EdD.

Transcripts

Applicants must submit official transcripts from all degree-bearing institutions they have attended. Unofficial transcripts can be used to complete an online application for review, but before you can begin the program, you will need to have official transcripts sent to the Baylor admissions team.

Please note that unofficial transcripts must include the following:

  • Full name of the institution (no abbreviations)
  • Student name
  • Student ID
  • Semesters
  • Course title and grade received
  • Grading scale (if different than 4.0 scale)
  • Level of study
  • Degree conferral date (if degree granted)

If the unofficial transcripts submitted do not meet the above requirements, all students are required to submit official transcripts. If admitted to the program, you will need to provide official transcripts.

Please note: To be considered an official transcript, the transcript must be sent directly from your institution(s) or through an electronic transcript vendor retained by that institution. Transcripts submitted by enrolled or prospective students are considered unofficial documents, even if they are in a sealed envelope provided to you by the issuing university.

Letters of Recommendation

Of the three required letters of recommendation, one must come from a faculty member the applicant has worked with in his or her master’s program who can speak to the applicant’s aptitude for rigorous scholarly work, and one must come from a professional supervisor who can attest to the applicant’s qualifications and speak to the benefit an EdD would have on his or her professional practice.

Personal Statement

Applicants must write a personal statement that addresses three core concepts:

  • Their reasoning for pursuing an EdD
  • How their academic and professional experiences have prepared them for the program
  • A significant Problem of Practice relevant to their current context of professional practice

What is a Problem of Practice?

A Problem of Practice (PoP) is a situation that exists in one’s place of work, school, college, non-profit organization, or other professional setting involving a specific issue or innovation that results when values/goals are not entirely met.

Applicants are asked to indicate the importance of this problem within their educational landscape, as well as its potential to result in improved understanding, experience, and outcomes.

Video Interview

All applicants must submit a recorded, five-minute video interview. During the video interview, applicants will answer a series of questions concerning their background and interest in the degree. Applicants will work with an admissions counselor to schedule their video interview.
